What is Carbon GAP

Our mission is not to fight Carbon, but to use it to create life.

We're made of carbon and it came from vegetation and things that eat vegetation. Plants use sunlight as energy and they pull carbon dioxide out the atmosphere. They turn it into carbon fuel and that's how they grow

Initiating Sustainable Growth:

Planting Spekboom "Portulacaria Afra"in Regorogile, Thabazimbi

PLANTING TREES FOR ANNA

Embark on a journey with us as we launch our first spekboom-planting initiative in the heart of Regorogile, a township surrounded by extensive informal settlements in the town of Thabazimbi, Limpopo Province, South Africa. This area faces significant challenges, including poor town planning, inadequate municipal services, chronic water and electricity shortages, and severely lacking wastewater systems, with sewage often flowing into the streets. The township also suffers from massive soil erosion in areas where informal tin houses have been built against hill slopes, exacerbated by insufficient stormwater drainage.

These conditions have led to a severely neglected suburban landscape that is in urgent need of restructuring and rehabilitation to create a healthier environment for the rapidly growing population of this rural development node.

We proudly dedicate this initiative to Anna, the beloved wife of a loyal farm employee, Jantjie, who has been with us for over 30 years. Anna was a pillar of the community, cherished and supported by all. Her strength and resilience inspire us to help restore Regorogile and provide a brighter, healthier future for its people.

For concerned citizens an opportunity exists to initiate and support the rehabilitation process by assisting in greening disturbed areas and stabilizing soils on slopes, paths and along gravel roads by planting trees. Our primary focus rests on the illustrious Spekboom (Portulacaria Afra), an indigenous marvel renowned for its unparalleled ecological benefits. Renowned as one of the most effective carbon-sequestering plants globally, Spekboom serves as a vanguard in the fight against climate change.

But the Benefits of Spekboom extend far beyond its carbon-capturing prowess. In addition to combating erosion with its extensive root system, this resilient succulent serves as a vital source of sustenance for local fauna, offering nourishment to wildlife and animals even during periods of drought. Its ability to thrive in arid conditions makes it an indispensable asset in regions susceptible to water scarcity, ensuring ecosystem resilience and stability.

By planting Spekboom in Regorogile, we not only fortify the local ecosystem but also forge a path towards sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

With hundreds of cultivated Spekboom trees (Portulacaria afra) already  in our Nursery on Groothoek Experimental Farm  ready to be transplanted to the Regorogile project, we need your valued support to scale up operations.

Besides the very positive effects tree planting will have on the environment, we are simultaneously creating job opportunities in this impoverished community by employing jobless persons during and after the whole planting operation. Temporary incentivized volunteer jobs can become permanent jobs as we expand into planting fruit trees, creating vegetable gardens and establishing water saving, collection and irrigation systems.

Here is how you can get involved in the project:
  • Financial Support: “Donate” or “Plant”- for employing a community member to raise trees in nurseries, logistics, transport and transplantation, aftercare, resources, administration and expanding nurseries.
  • Additional Tree Donations: Any local indigenous trees to South Africa or the Region, or fruit/food trees (eg avocado, mango, oranges, lemons)
  • Resource Donations: Transportation devices, tools, water storage tanks, piping and accessories for sustainable drip irrigation systems.

Join us in this transformative endeavor, where every sapling planted symbolizes a commitment to a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.

Join our TREE PLANTING initiatives

By PLANTING a tree with GAAAP, you provide the opportunity for an incentivized volunteer to plant and grow a tree within their community and create a beautiful environment. Our MISSION is to be the platform that connects donors and volunteers to ensure that our VISION of prosperous communities can become a reality.

We believe in a future in which trees give shade instead of buildings, where fruit should come from the trees in your park or next to the road, and not from the supermarket. We encourage local, bio-friendly, healthy food produce grown by enthusiastic community members. By sponsoring a tree you not only give back to the environment but also help create work in underprivileged communities!
